Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) is made of copper alloy, partly gilded with a face hand painted with 24-karat gold. Guru Rinpoche is always seen holding a colorful staff or club called the khatvanga. It is a magic wand held by tantric deities, dakinis, and Vajrayana saints. And, yes, there are always three skulls on the staff.
